Home - Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society

The Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society is a statewide organization of quilt lovers, quilt makers and quilt collectors who are committed to promoting the understanding, appreciation and knowledge of the art and craft of quilt making. We support the collection and preservation of Kentucky quilts and the records of Kentucky quiltmakers and their work.

We offer several educational workshops and contests to our more than 450 members each year, and schedule quilt registry events throughout the state to preserve quilt history. Our annual meeting and Getaway event features a national or internationally renowned quilting instructor each year and draws about 150 quilters for three (3) days of quilting workshops and activities.

Kentucky’s very popular Quilter’s Day Out was founded by the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society and we continue to support those events around the state as well.

Getaway is an annual 4-day gathering of hundreds of quilters from Kentucky and surrounding states offering classes, programs, vendors, sit and sew, door prizes, a huge silent auction and loads of fun and fellowship. Designed for beginners to advanced quilters, there is something for everyone.

Along with two full days of classes taught by talented and experienced KHQS teachers, internationally renowned master quilter and creator Ricky Tims will present his 2-day Quilt Luminarium symposium on Friday, June 20th and Saturday, June 21st. Quilt Luminarium is a comprehensive symposium that demystifies seemingly complex concepts, teaches mastery of unique and unconventional techniques and helps you harness your creativity! Luminarium will expand your quilting toolbox and is truly for all quilters from beginner to advanced, from traditional to contemporary, and from modern to art. Join us in this opportunity for quilters to gather virtually in the comfort of their own home, or perhaps two or more of you would like to gather somewhere in your home community and then join the online group. The format is casual and designed to evolve organically to meet the needs of those participating, but will include conversation, sharing, learning from one another, and so much more! You may come and go for all or part of the gathering.
