President’s Notes

I first want to thank all of you who donated money to help the WKU Museum obtain the Kentucky Sun Quilt to add to its permanent collection.  It was a successful fund raising drive between the Museum and KHQS.  The quilt will be on display at the Museum at various times.  If you wish to see the quilt, be sure to check with the Museum for the scheduled showings. The quilt, which was appraised at $15,000 was offered to The Kentucky Museum for $5,000.  KHQS raised $2,200 toward this effort ($500 from the Society as a whole plus $1,700 through member donations. Those of you who attend Getaway will be able to see this magnificent quilt on June 14th, as Sandy Staebell, from the Museum, shares it with us and tells us more about its historic roots.

Next, I am going to take this last opportunity to reiterate some things that I have mentioned in previous letters. On my recent order through Amazon Smiles, I generated $1.22 in rebates for KHQS.  I also generated $1.52 for the Society by shopping at Kroger. The Kroger figure would have been higher if I didn’t have such a great husband. He does most of the grocery shopping and he prefers Meijer. However, a new Kroger store is being built five miles from our house, and I believe my husband will become a Kroger convert. While these amounts are not very much, just think what KHQS could receive if two hundred members a month did just a little shopping through this program!

We are still hoping to keep the website fresh and inviting.  After my plea in the last letter for members to send photos of their quilts to use as the background for the website, we have received zero, zilch, nada photos.    Come on folks, send in your pictures!  The better the resolution of the photo the more likely it can be used.  You can determine the resolution by looking at the photo’s properties. (right click on the photo, then click on properties – under details will be the dimensions) We need a dimension large enough to fill the screen, so look for photos that have a minimum of 1400 x 900 pixels.  You can email photos to Cindy Parker, webmaster at cparker@zoomtown.com . In the meantime, I have changed the background to a quilt that I made last year as a wedding gift for a friend.

June will be here before we know it, and you will be receiving your renewal notices by email.  We no longer send out post cards except to the few people who do not have email.  Even individuals who have complementary (no fee is assessed) memberships need to renew.  This gives everyone an opportunity to update their on-line information. You can pay by credit card on-line or you can print an invoice and pay by mail. When you are on the website to renew, take a few minutes and look around.  We are slowly building an archive of interesting articles about members, guilds and commercial partners. In addition, there are some great photo albums that just might be the inspiration for your next quilt.

I hope to see you at Getaway!  Mary
