KENTUCKY HERITAGE QUILT SOCIETY
2018 QUILT BLOCK CONTEST

Welcome Spring

This kit includes three pieces of fabric: floral, green and yellow

RULES:

1. The contest is open to all KHQS members.

2. You may use any pattern or original design that you wish.

3. The fabrics in the kit must be used in the block.  No additional fabrics may be used.  If you choose to appliqué your block, use the green as the background.

4. The unfinished block must measure 9 ½ by 9 ½ inches. The design must be within 9 x 9.

5. Blocks may be pieced, appliquéd, or constructed using any quilting technique or combination of techniques and may be constructed by hand or machine. The block should not be quilted but it must be quiltable.

6. You may enter as many blocks as you wish, but a maximum of 2 blocks from an individual may be selected for the top 20 blocks; however, the 2 blocks must be of different techniques (i.e., one appliqué & one pieced).

7. Print or type your name, address, phone number, email and title of the block on a piece of muslin, then baste this label to the back of the quilt block, being certain that your basting stitches do not show and become part of the design.

8. You may enclose a stamped self addressed envelope or email address if you want to know that your block arrived safely.

9. Judging will be done prior to Getaway 2018. Twenty (20) blocks will be selected based on accuracy, workmanship, creativity and overall appearance. The makers of the top 20 blocks will each receive $10. From these 20 names one name will be drawn as the winner of the top 20 blocks.

10. All blocks will be displayed at Getaway 2018. Voting by the membership attending Getaway will choose a Viewers' Choice winner, who will receive $15.

11. You do not have to be present to win either of the prizes.

12. Blocks not judged into the top 20 will be grouped and a drawing from the names of those makers will determine the winner of the additional blocks.

13. Kits purchased in person from the coordinator or her designee will be $5 each. If kits must be mailed, the cost will be $6 to cover the cost of mailing.

14.  Completed blocks should be postmarked and mailed by May 15, 2018, to

Sarah Frye, KHQS Block Contest, 7 Churchill Drive, Winchester, KY 40391.

Helpful Hints: All blocks must measure 9 ½ x 9 ½ inches. Corners and points should match accurately. Curves should be smooth and flowing. No markings should appear on the front of the block. The block should be carefully pressed.
